LOUISE GILCHRIST PRESTON

Louise “Lou” Gilchrist Preston, 67 of Greeley, died Friday, Feb. 27, at her home.

She was born May 8, 1941 in Denver. She was later adopted by James Benjamin and Ethel (Huchingson) Gilchrist.

Lou graduated from the Durango High School in 1959. From 1959-61, she attended Colorado Women’s College, where she earned her associate’s degree in business. She later married Ronald L. Preston on June 25, 1965, in Durango. The couple lived in Eaton from 1969 until moving to Greeley in 1998.

Mrs. Preston worked as a detail painter for Roger’s Rowdies in Greeley, and she also had her own custom leather work and engraving business. She coached girls tennis at Eaton High School and was a member of the United States Tennis Association. Her hobbies included leather craft and calligraphy, and she enjoyed playing many musical instruments including the harmonica. She was a member of the Mile High Harmonica Club and the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of Harmonica and was also a member of the Happy Harpers, a group that played for residents of many of the nursing homes in Greeley.

Survivors include her husband Ron Preston of Greeley; her daughter, Heidi Preston Maguire and husband Tom of Brentwood, Calif.; two sons, Daniel Shane Preston of Greeley and Douglas Randall Preston and his wife Kelley of Greeley; four grandchildren, Justin Everett Harris, Chase Maguire, Everett Ryne Preston and Patrick Dominic Preston; and her brother, James Edwin Gilchrist of Missoula, Mont.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Gilchrist.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Alger Memorial United Methodist Church, 303 Maple Ave. in Eaton. Visitation will be prior to services from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.

ROBERT EWING BALLARD SR.
Sept. 29, 1931 - June 6, 2003

Robert Ewing Ballard Sr., 71, of Chula Vista died Friday.
He was born in Hyannis, Mass., and was a dispatcher and driver for Yellow Cab.  He served in the Army.
Survivors include his daughters, Jannine Smith of Hyannis and Sandra Ballard of Tampa Florida; son, Robert Jr. of Hyannis; and three grandchildren.
No services were planned.

ROSE -- Mary Evangeline, 58, a victim of cancer, passed away Wed. July 24, 1996 at Torrey Pines Convalescent Hospital. Mary, the youngest of 8  children, was born Nov. 9, 1937 in Pasadena, CA and moved to San Diego in  1960. Ms. Rose, a teacher with the San Diego Unified School District for approx. 20 yrs, also lived and taught in Greece and was an English Instructor at Serra High School from 1989 - 1996. She is survived by 2  children, Dyana Zweng of Scotts Valley, CA, and Geoffrey Rose of San Diego;  3 grandchildren, Daniel, Regina, and Elisabeth Zweng; 3 brothers, James Rose of Azusa, CA, John Rose of Citrus Heights, CA and Frank Rose of  Arlington, VA; and 2 sisters, Eleanor Taylor of Balboa Island, CA, and Georgia Bunker of West Covina, CA. Memorial Services are Tues., July 30th,  2 p.m. at St. Considine and Helen's Greek Orthodox Church in Cardiff with Graveside Service following at Eternal Hills Cemetery . The family suggest Memorials directed to the American Cancer Society.
