Seasons Greetings to All,
This has been a very eventful year for me. Having been diagnosed with lung cancer in May, physically too weak for surgery and chemo, my only option was radiation. I wasn't certain I'd see another Thanksgiving or Christmas. I took the radiation treatments daily in June and July and in October the radiologist said the tumor had shrunk to an "insignificant" mass. I'd been given an "extension" to life thanks to modern medicine and the kindness of family, extended family, friends and high school classmates. I'm thoroughly convinced that your prayers, positive thoughts and just plain kindness pulled me through this one. I was completely taken by surprise how many of my classmates remembered me and even could recall some of my high school shenanigans. Your e-mails, cards and phone calls greatly improved my spirit and made the trips to and from radiation much more comfortable.
The medical staff at Balboa Naval Hospital, Radiation Oncology Clinic, did everything possible to make me comfortable and treat me in a friendly and professional manner. The doctors, technicians and clerks were always smiling and knew what they were doing. Thank you so much.
I don't know what 2012 holds for us, but for me, I'll always remember the special Christmas of 2011. Having faced mortality head on--I can truly say Jimmy Stewart was right -- "Its A Wonderful Life!".
